Welcome to our Primary School. At Emanuel School, our aim is to provide an education in line with our motto ‘Mind, Spirit, Being’

We focus on encouraging children to develop into well-rounded students with a strong sense of respect and responsibility. Formal and informal programs are built around the nurturing of children’s academic, emotional, social, physical and spiritual needs. Our academic programs foster passionate learners with strong foundational understandings and an opportunity to explore subject areas broadly and deeply.

Our Jewish life programs are built through both academic programs in Hebrew and Jewish Studies as well as engaging, informal experiences as we mark festivals, celebrations and commemorations. Our wellbeing programs assist students to flourish by providing opportunities to develop their personal effectiveness (including organisational and self-care skills), their interpersonal skills and their commitment to making a difference in the broader community.

Our team of caring, dedicated and professional teachers develops strong relationships with students, based on an understanding of each child’s needs. Our child-centred program is differentiated to provide opportunities for all students to achieve their personal best. Classroom teachers work closely with specialist teachers to ensure their programs meet the needs of all students.

Primary School Learning

The K-6 curriculum includes the Key Learning Areas of English, Mathematics, Science and Technology, HSIE (History, Geography), Creative Arts (Music, Visual Art, Drama and Dance), and Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE). The development of a strong Jewish identity is an essential aspect of education at Emanuel School and as such, our curriculum includes Hebrew and Jewish Studies lessons from K-6.

Core subjects are taught by class teachers, while specialist teachers deliver the curriculum in Hebrew, Jewish Studies, Music, Art, Drama, Physical Education, Library and Innovation. The use of technology is also an integral part of daily life at Emanuel, with interactive whiteboards, iPads, laptops and a wide range of technologies used purposefully in the classroom. Primary students have 1:1 access to managed iPads (Years K-4) or laptops (Years 5-6) with many learning apps. These learning tools allow students to showcase their thinking, create a range of written and multimedia texts, complete coding or design projects and to collaborate with others. Technology usage is balanced in terms of learning time that is enhanced with tools of this type, alongside learning within the curriculum that utilises various other equipment and materials. We encourage the development of fine-motor skills and creative, collaborative opportunities that do not require devices.

Our teaching and learning programs provide the students with opportunities to transfer their knowledge to new situations and to use their learned skills in applied circumstances. Teachers use a variety of strategies to allow for deep learning and understanding to develop over time.

PRIMARY SCHOOL JEWISH LIFE

At Emanuel School, students experience, create and celebrate Jewish life in a Jewish community that is open, pluralistic, welcoming and filled with ruach. Morning tefillot, weekly Shabbat celebrations, festival ceremonies and celebrations create a sense of Jewish time, knowledge, culture and community.

In the classroom, Jewish Studies and Hebrew lessons provide students with the opportunity to understand, explore and connect to our rich Jewish heritage. Jewish values and mitzvot are lived through Jewish learning and rituals. Through Tzedakah and Gemilut Hasadim, we engage in the actions of Tikkun Olam and connect students with communities beyond the School. We love to invite families and parents to join us in celebrating Jewish festivals and Jewish learning at the School with the students.
